On S. Commerce Street in Harlingen, Lodge #1889 has built something that most organizations only talk about: a place where strangers become regulars and regulars become family. Rated 4.5 stars across 135 reviews, this lodge earns that score the old-fashioned way, through real events, real people, and a facility that actually gets used.

On any given weekend you might walk in to catch Vinyl Spin working through a setlist that ranges from classic rock to requests the band had never played before, and nailing every one. The crowd knows each other. The drinks are poured. The room is loud in the best possible way.

Beyond the entertainment, the lodge runs swimming lessons for kids in a large, clean pool that gives families in the Rio Grande Valley an affordable, trustworthy option. The Elks have been serving communities like Harlingen since 1868, and Lodge #1889 carries that mission forward every single week.

What We Offer

The lodge calendar runs year-round and covers more ground than most people expect. Live band nights featuring acts like Vinyl Spin draw members and guests who want real musicians playing real music, not a playlist. Ticketed events, member mixers, and holiday celebrations fill the rest of the schedule.

The swimming pool program gives local kids structured lessons in a clean, supervised environment. The pool is large enough to accommodate multiple skill levels, and the facility includes showers and changing areas. It is one of the more practical benefits of membership for families with young children.

Beyond events and the pool, the lodge supports Elks National Foundation charitable programs, offers meeting space for community groups, and provides members a social home base with bar service and weekly gatherings. Membership is open to U.S. citizens who believe in God, and the application process is straightforward through the national Elks website.

"My kids are doing swimming lesson here. We only have access to the pool for the short time there. The pool is big and clean. The facility itself seems outdated. The restrooms are equipped with showers too. There is a large area with shade where you can sit with tables. My rating is solely based on the pool side of this location. The employees are friendly."

The Elks gave America
Flag Day.

Long before it was a national observance, the Order set aside June 14th to honor the flag. Patriotism has always been one of our cardinal principles, and every lodge meeting still closes the same way it has for over a century.
